Healthier US School Challenge

The Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver has been very exciting, especially for us here in the United States. There’s a different type of competition going on that can help every child in every school win, if they participate.

It’s called the Healthier US School Challenge, and they offer not 3 but 4 medals on their podium: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold of Distinction.

Follow the link to find out how your school can become a certified HUSSC School.

To be a Gold School, your school must provide a minimum of 90 minutes of physical education per week. The Gold Award of Distinction goes to schools who average at least 150 minutes of P.E. weekly. Here are links to the applications:

GYMB4 is a GREAT way to squeak in those extra minutes of physical education. With dozens and dozens of workouts of 5 and 10 minutes long, students can exercise anywhere, at any time… even between classes! Several schools around the country use GYMB4 to meet or even exceed state-mandated P.E. minimums.

If a school uses GYMB4 for just 10 minutes each day (could be as simple as a 5-minute in the morning and a 5-minute before recess), they have added over 50 minutes a week! That’s one-third of the way to winning the Gold Award with Distinction!
