“The Heart of Parenting”

My sister just clued me in to a very good book on parenting:

The Heart of Parenting: Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child by John Gottman, PhD.

The book offers practical advice on how parents can become “emotion coaches” to help children deal with the surging emotions that all children experience, even in families without problems (is there even such a family?).

He claims that kids whose parents are “emotion coaches” are healthier, better academically, have better friendships, fewer behavioral problems, are less violent – overall, they are “more emotionally healthy.”

For teachers, Gottman stresses that “children in emotional pain don’t leave their problems at the schoolhouse door.”

A book worth checking out. Link to book on Amazon.com.
